Updated October 30, 2026. Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 26, 2026. The Greater Tucson turkey-trot calendar includes an earlier Marana event as well as a Thanksgiving-morning race in Tucson. All times below are local Arizona time.
There are two perfectly reasonable ways to start Thanksgiving. You can settle into the kitchen with a cup of coffee, or you can put on running shoes and join a crowd of people making room for pie. If the second option sounds good, Greater Tucson has a couple of very different outings worth comparing.
The important detail is the date. A race called a turkey trot does not necessarily happen on Thanksgiving Day. Marana's event takes place on November 14, while the Thanksgiving XC Classic at Reid Park happens on November 26. That gives you a choice: make it an early holiday outing, keep the Thanksgiving-morning tradition, or do both.

#RUNMARANA Turkey Trot: an early start to the holiday season
Saturday, November 14, 2026 — Crossroads at Silverbell District Park, 7548 N. Silverbell Road, Marana.
Marana's event gives you the widest distance choice of the two verified events in this guide. Choose a 5K run/walk, a 10K run/walk, or a half marathon. There is also a free kids' fun run shorter than half a mile. The Town of Marana partners with On Your Left Fitness on the event.
The adult courses use the Santa Cruz River shared-use path. The organizer describes out-and-back routes, with aid stations at the start/finish and distance turnaround points. That makes this a different experience from Reid Park's grass-and-dirt cross-country course. If surface matters to your decision, compare the actual course maps rather than choosing only by distance.
Marana schedule and registration
Check-in begins at 7 a.m.
Half marathon starts at 8 a.m., with a published three-hour cutoff.
10K starts at 8:15 a.m., with a two-hour cutoff.
5K starts at 8:20 a.m., with a one-hour cutoff.
Two details need a direct check before you go: the registration page shows the kids' run at 9:20 a.m. in its event cards but 9 a.m. in its schedule. Race-day prices also differ between the town listing and the registration description. Use the registration page for current pricing and confirm the kids' start time with the organizer. Neither discrepancy changes the confirmed November 14 date.
Early packet pickup is listed for Thursday, November 12, from 4–6 p.m. at the Marana Parks and Recreation Community Center, 13250 N. Lon Adams Road. The organizer says race-day entry is online, rather than on paper. Handle registration ahead of time if possible, and save the confirmation where you can find it without relying on a connection at the park.

Thanksgiving XC Classic: Thanksgiving morning at Reid Park
Thursday, November 26, 2026 — Ramada 10 near 22nd Street and Country Club Road, Tucson.
If your ideal turkey trot happens before Thanksgiving dinner, this is the event to look at first. The Thanksgiving XC Classic offers a 5K and a shorter 1.5-mile fun run/walk. The course includes grass, dirt, some asphalt and hay bales. The 5K covers two loops; the shorter event covers one.
This is a useful distinction for families: a shorter distance does not automatically mean a smooth paved route. The organizer allows strollers and provides lanes around the hay bales, but describes the terrain as hilly and mostly grass and dirt. Think about the stroller you have and the people joining you. Dogs are not permitted at this race.
Reid Park race-day schedule
7 a.m.: race-day registration and packet pickup.
8 a.m.: women's 5K start.
8:55 a.m.: men's and nonbinary 5K start.
9:35 a.m.: 1.5-mile fun run start.
The organizer publishes separate race and award rules. Read those before choosing a 5K start, particularly if awards or team participation matter to you. Team registration closes Tuesday, November 24, at 6 p.m.; teams cannot be formed on race morning.
Reid Park fees and packet pickup
Through November 20, the 5K is listed at $27 for Southern Arizona Roadrunners members and $29 for nonmembers; the fun run is $17. For November 21–25, those prices rise to $30, $32 and $18, respectively. Published race-day prices are $35 for the 5K and $20 for the fun run. Check the registration checkout for any additional fees.
Advance packet pickup is at The Running Shop, 3055 N. Campbell Avenue, Suite 153: Saturday, November 21, from 10 a.m.–5 p.m., and Monday through Wednesday, November 23–25, from 10 a.m.–6 p.m. Race-morning pickup is also available starting at 7 a.m.
The race supports charitable causes including Toys for Tots, Team Hoyt Arizona and the Huntington's Disease Society of America. The organizer invites donations of new, unwrapped toys at packet pickup or on race morning. If that is something your household wants to participate in, put the toy beside the shoes the night before.

Which Tucson-area turkey trot should you choose?
For a Thanksgiving-morning tradition: choose Reid Park. For a longer distance or an outing before the holiday: consider Marana. For a shorter group activity: compare Marana's 5K and kids' event with Reid Park's 1.5-mile fun run/walk, paying attention to surface and start time.
My advice is to choose around the least enthusiastic person in the group. A relaxed outing everyone enjoys is a better holiday tradition than a distance someone agreed to under pressure. Spectating can be part of the plan, too. Agree on a meeting point and a realistic departure time, especially when different family members have different starts.
Make the morning easy
Check the forecast, bring layers for waiting around, and leave time for parking, restrooms and locating the correct start. Pack water, comfortable shoes, your registration confirmation and a change of clothing if you are heading somewhere afterward. Verify accessibility needs directly with the organizer; a paved course description alone does not establish every part of the arrival and event experience.
If you are visiting from Oro Valley, Catalina Foothills, Vail, Sahuarita or another part of Greater Tucson, look at the actual park entrance and meeting point before setting out. Reid Park is a large destination, and the race instructions point specifically to Ramada 10. A generic park pin can leave you with more walking than you planned.
Frequently asked questions
Are both events on Thanksgiving Day?
No. Marana's turkey trot is November 14, 2026. The Thanksgiving XC Classic is November 26, 2026.
Can I bring a stroller or a dog?
Reid Park's organizer allows strollers with terrain cautions and prohibits dogs. Confirm Marana's current policies directly before bringing either.
Are these all the Thanksgiving runs in Southern Arizona?
No. These are the two Greater Tucson events verified for this guide. Do not confuse the town of Pima with Pima County when comparing other race listings.
