Updated October 30, 2026. These Greater Tucson Christmas-light and tree-lighting plans use dates published by the organizers. All times are local Arizona time. Check the linked event page before leaving home, particularly for tickets, weather changes and parking instructions.
Christmas in the desert has its own personality. You can spend an evening walking through a decorated neighborhood, meet friends for a garden light display, or build a Saturday around art, food and a community tree lighting. You do not need snow to make a pretty good holiday tradition.
The trick is choosing the outing that fits your group. A free neighborhood stroll, a scheduled garden event and a busy community festival solve three different versions of “what should we do tonight?” This guide puts the confirmed dates up front, then explains the practical differences.
2026 holiday lights and tree lightings: quick planner
Winterhaven Festival of Lights: December 12–26, 6–10 p.m. nightly. Central Tucson neighborhood walk; free admission, donations encouraged.
Tohono Chul Holiday Nights: December 5–6, 11–13 and 18–20, 6–9 p.m. Members' Night December 4. Ticketed garden outing.
Marana Holiday Festival & Tree Lighting: December 5, 2–9 p.m. Tree lighting at 6 p.m.; encore at 8:30 p.m.
Oro Valley Festival of the Arts & Holiday Tree Lighting: December 5, 10 a.m.–6:30 p.m., and December 6, 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Tree lighting Saturday evening; free admission.
Downtown Parade of Lights: Organizer's December calendar lists December 5 at Jácome Plaza. Check the current general-information page for timing and route.
December 5 is a crowded date on this calendar. My advice: pick one main event and enjoy it. Trying to cover Marana, Oro Valley and downtown in one afternoon is a good way to spend your holiday outing in the car.
Winterhaven Festival of Lights
December 12–26, 2026 | 6–10 p.m. nightly | Winterhaven neighborhood near Country Club and Fort Lowell roads.
Winterhaven is the neighborhood option: decorated homes, an outdoor walk and the flexibility to move at your own pace. The festival's official FAQ confirms the 2026 dates and says admission is free, with donations encouraged for the Community Food Bank and festival infrastructure.
Free admission does not mean every part of the visit is free. Parking arrangements, food purchases and any separately booked experiences need their own check. The festival works with nearby businesses, schools and churches on parking. Use its official parking information rather than assuming an open residential curb is available.
The organizers specifically warn against blocking driveways, mailboxes and delivery access. You are visiting a real neighborhood where people still need to get home. Follow posted restrictions and leave room for emergency access. A little planning here makes the night better for residents and visitors.
Winterhaven says accessible portable restrooms are available and describes wide neighborhood streets. Leashed, well-behaved dogs are allowed, but consider whether your dog enjoys crowds before making that decision. Assisted-living bus access has separate arrangements; it should not be treated as a public drive-through option. Check the current access instructions if that applies to your group.

Tohono Chul Holiday Nights
Public nights: December 5–6, 11–13 and 18–20, 2026 | 6–9 p.m. | 7366 N. Paseo del Norte, Tucson.
Tohono Chul offers a garden setting with holiday lights, music, food and drinks, shopping and Santa visits. The official event page lists a separate Members' Night on Friday, December 4. If you are planning around that first Friday, confirm that your membership and ticket arrangements cover the evening.
Published event prices are $25 general admission, $20 for members and $10 for ages 2–17; children under 2 are free. Those are the Holiday Nights prices, which are different from the ordinary daytime-admission information elsewhere on the website. Use the event page and its ticket instructions when booking.
This would be my pick for a planned evening with friends or a date night when you want one destination. Choose your date first, then work backward to dinner and arrival. The organizer says more entertainment and activity information is coming, so avoid promising a particular performer or Santa schedule until the details for your night are posted.

Marana Holiday Festival & Tree Lighting
Saturday, December 5, 2026 | 2–9 p.m. | Ed Honea Marana Municipal Complex, 11555 W. Civic Center Drive.
Marana's official page lists the main tree-lighting ceremony at 6 p.m., with an encore at 8:30 p.m. The afternoon start gives you room to make an outing of it before the lighting rather than arriving just as everyone is trying to find a place to watch.
If the tree lighting is your priority, build your arrival around the 6 p.m. ceremony. The 2 p.m. opening time is not the lighting time. For families with younger children, that distinction can be the difference between a fun afternoon and several hours of “when does it start?”
Read the town's current directions, parking, shuttle and event-map sections before you go. The page also contains prior-year sponsor and gallery material; those sections are not proof that every attraction, vendor or transportation detail repeats in 2026. Use the dated 2026 announcement for the schedule and confirm any specific activity that matters to your group.

Oro Valley Festival of the Arts & Holiday Tree Lighting
December 5–6, 2026 | Oro Valley Marketplace, 12155 N. Oracle Road.
The town confirms Saturday hours of 10 a.m.–6:30 p.m. and Sunday hours of 10 a.m.–4 p.m. Admission is free. The tree lighting takes place Saturday evening; Sunday is a second day for the arts festival, rather than a second confirmed lighting ceremony.
Oro Valley describes an event with artists and exhibitors, community and student performances, food and drinks, children's activities and Santa. That combination makes it worth considering if some people in your group want holiday shopping while others are there for the entertainment and tree.
My suggestion is to choose Saturday for the lighting or Sunday for a daytime arts outing. Check the event organizer's detailed schedule before promising an exact tree-lighting minute, performer or children's activity. Free admission also leaves room in the budget for purchases, but food and art are separate decisions.

Downtown Parade of Lights and other displays
The Downtown Parade of Lights organizer's December-events page lists the parade for December 5, 2026, at Jácome Plaza, 101 N. Stone Avenue. Visit its general-information and route pages for the final viewing plan. A plaza address is a starting point, not a substitute for checking where the parade travels.

Another display to check is LightsUp! at Tucson Botanical Gardens. At this review, its page advertises November 27–January 10, Tuesday–Sunday evenings, 6–9:30 p.m., but does not spell out the season's years in that schedule. Confirm the dated ticket calendar before booking a specific 2026 visit; pricing and availability should come from the current ticket selection.
Plan around your group
Bring layers, comfortable walking shoes and a charged phone with saved ticket confirmations. Ask about the actual route, resting places and accessible arrival options if someone has mobility needs. If noise or crowds are a concern, contact the organizer about quieter arrival windows rather than assuming every evening feels the same.
Choose one part of the region for the night. Visitors staying in Oro Valley or Marana may prefer a northwest outing; central Tucson plans may pair more naturally with Winterhaven or a garden visit. Check driving and parking time for your actual starting point. A short-looking map distance can still require an arrival plan on a busy festival night.
