You can spend a Tucson winter afternoon looking at the mountains. Or you can pull on your boots and watch a city celebrate its Western roots. Rodeo week gives you a pretty good reason to try the second option.
The Tucson Rodeo and Tucson Rodeo Parade belong on the same calendar, but they need different plans. One puts you in the stands watching professional competition. The other puts horses, wagons and community tradition out on the streets. If this is your first visit, start by deciding which experience you want. Then build the day around it.
2027 dates: the part to put on your calendar
The official Tucson Rodeo website announces February 20 through February 28, 2027. Its ticket page lists six main performance dates: February 20, 21, 25, 26, 27 and 28. That distinction matters. The nine-day celebration does not mean there is a main ticketed afternoon performance every day.
The Tucson Rodeo Parade is Thursday, February 25, 2027, starting at 9 a.m. The two events make a combined Thursday outing possible, but leaving breathing room between them will make the day more enjoyable.

What to expect at La Fiesta de los Vaqueros
The rodeo takes place at the Tucson Rodeo Grounds, 4823 S. 6th Avenue. Established in 1925, La Fiesta de los Vaqueros brings professional competitors together for a tradition that has become part of Tucson's identity.
You do not have to know every event to enjoy an afternoon. The organizer's Rodeo 101 guide is a useful introduction: roughstock events such as bull riding and bronc riding are scored, while events such as barrel racing and team roping are timed. Understanding that simple difference gives you something to follow before you ever learn the finer points.
My advice for a first visit is to read a little beforehand, then let yourself be a beginner. Follow the announcer, watch the results and pick one event you want to understand better. You do not need to turn the outing into homework.

Rodeo tickets: choose the day before the seat
The organizer's published standard-section prices currently range from $20 to $44, depending on date and section. Premium experiences cost more. Use the official ticket page to compare your actual performance and seating choice, then review fees and the final total before purchasing.
If you are bringing a group, settle on the date and head count first. Sending everyone a vague “let's go to the rodeo” message can easily become a collection of different tickets. Choose one person to coordinate the plan and make sure everyone understands where they will sit.
Consider how long your group wants to be outside, how much walking works and whether covered seating matters. Those questions are more useful than automatically choosing the cheapest seat or the most expensive package. Ask the ticket office about accessible seating and the route to it before buying if those details affect your visit.
The rodeo states that ticket sales are final and performances take place rain or shine. Check the terms for your selected purchase. Make a plan you are comfortable keeping if the forecast changes.
The parade route and where to watch
The published 2027 route begins at South 12th Avenue and Drexel Road, travels east along Drexel, then turns north on Nogales Highway and ends at Irvington Road. Use the organizer's current route map rather than a saved map from an older visit.
Grandstand seating is along Drexel between Liberty and Missiondale. The organizer also identifies viewing outside the grandstands along the route. Decide whether reserved seating or choosing your own viewing location fits your group before working out parking.
The organizer's general information page lists grandstand admission at $15 for adults and $10 for children ages 3–12. Its linked 2027 ticket listing displays a price range of $11.63–$16.78. Check the ticket category, fees and total at checkout. The route page gives the parade start as 9 a.m.; the ticket listing's earlier time window should not be treated as the parade's start time.

Parking and closures deserve their own plan
The parade's visitor page says closures can start as early as 6:30 a.m., while its road-closure page says as early as 7 a.m. Treat that discrepancy as a reason to check the current closure map and arrive early. The closure page also describes restricted access to designated parking until 8:30 a.m.
Save your approach before leaving home. A navigation app may send you toward a street you cannot use once the route is closed. Agree on a meeting location and a backup plan if your group arrives in separate vehicles.
The parade visitor page lists some $5 cash-only parking options and identifies a no-parking stretch on Drexel between Missiondale and Nogales Highway. Availability and access can change. Follow posted restrictions, respect neighborhood driveways and confirm the designated lot you intend to use.

Three ways to make the day work
1. A parade morning with the family
Choose your viewing spot and parking plan ahead of time. Give everyone a clear expectation about the early start and the walk from the car. Plan a meal afterward without tying yourselves to a reservation so tight that leaving the route becomes stressful.
For younger visitors, one memorable outing can be plenty. You can enjoy the parade without adding an entire afternoon at the rodeo. Leaving while everyone still has some energy is a perfectly good strategy.
2. A first rodeo with visiting friends
Choose one of the six listed main performance dates. The organizer currently lists gates at 10 a.m., youth activities from 12:30 p.m. and the professional rodeo at 2 p.m. Confirm that schedule for the day you book.
Allow time for parking, security and finding your seats. Keep the rest of the itinerary flexible. A relaxed morning and one main event will usually give your visitors more room to enjoy themselves than a day packed with stops.
3. Parade and rodeo on Thursday
February 25 is the date to compare if you want both experiences. Book the two events separately and work out the transition between your parade viewing location and the rodeo grounds. Do not assume one ticket includes both.
Build in time to eat, walk and regroup. If someone in your party needs a shorter day, agree on that before you leave. A good shared plan includes an easy way to scale back.
What to wear, bring and check
Think comfortable shoes, layers, a hat and sunscreen. Check the forecast for the hours you will actually be outside. New boots can look terrific and still be a poor choice for a long walk.
Review each event's rules separately. The rodeo has a clear-bag policy and restricts outside food and drinks, with inspected medical exceptions. Both organizers list umbrellas among prohibited items. Use their current guidance when packing, especially if you have accessibility or medical needs. Ask directly about arrangements that your group depends on.

Frequently asked questions
Is the parade at the rodeo grounds?
The parade follows the published street route. The rodeo competition takes place at the rodeo grounds. Save the correct location for each part of your day.
Should I plan on school being closed?
Check your own district's 2026–27 calendar. A Tucson tradition does not replace the calendar that applies to your household.
Can I do both events in one day?
Thursday, February 25 is the combined option to consider. Buy the appropriate admission for each, allow time between them and choose a pace that works for your group.
Make rodeo week part of getting to know Tucson
Annual traditions give you another way to experience a place. If you are exploring a move, enjoy the event, then leave some ordinary time in the trip too. Notice the drive from the area you are considering, the places you stop and how the day feels once the special outing is over.
